Pietramora

The name Pietramora probably comes from a dark stone found in the area, believed to be a meteorite with a mysterious inscription on it… The area is rich in prehistoric finds of the neolithic and etruscan age such as the necropolis of Poggio Buco.

Working in the area archaeologists recently discovered a very ancient astronomical observatory similar to Stonehenge. It is a circle of big tufa stones dating back to 4000 years ago and orientated towards the North Pole and the sun position in the winter solstice. The finding is the only one of its kind in Italy and has been studied by a professor of the Colombo University in Milan who confirmed it is a prehistoric observatory.

The environment is still flush with wildlife: it is common to see foxes, deer, wild-boar, porcupines and in the near River Fiora you can see the otter, a protected and unusual animal. The area is rich in many medicinal plants, making the place particularly special. If you like excursions there are many paths you can walk or ride through.

Agriturismo Pietramora

Pietramora, listed by the commune as a building of historical significance, was built at the beginning of the 19th century and has been carefully restored. You can either rent a whole apartment or individual bedrooms.

We offer bikes for rent, horse trekking on a nearby riding centre, discounts on Terme di Saturnia and Sorano tickets, washing machine, ironing set, a nice garden with tables and chairs.

You can find all you need for your babies: cradles, big chairs and baby sitters for those who would like to relax knowing that their children are taken care of. In the agriturismo we have the same countryside flavour of many years ago when the family lived with the farmyard animals: little ducks, chickens and rabbits will make your children’s holiday unforgettable.

We organize guided excursions to the archeological site of Poggiorota.
