Also known by the name Aurinia, or the City of Gold, under the dominion of the Roman Empire, Saturnia is a splendid city both absolutely breathtaking and enchanting at the same time. Admired for its incredible abundance of artistic work, culture, history and monuments, Saturnia truly embodies the rich past and traditions of the Maremma.

A characteristic Maremman village, Saturnia is located amongst the hills of Southern Tuscany, boasting views of incredible natural splendour, which never fail to charm and amaze all those who see them.

Hidden amongst the streets and alleys of the town are some of the most splendid treasures in the Maremma including the Panciaticihi-Ximenes Palazzo, home to the governors of justice, the Castellum Aquarum, an ancient Roman cistern and today a very important culture centre, the Church of St Maria Maggiore, a medieval splendour, and the city walls, built by the Roman Empire.Saturnia is world renowned for the presence, only 2km from the town, of a very famous thermal spa complex known as the Terme di Saturnia. A natural warm spring with sulphuric water, the area is celebrated not only for its relaxing proprieties but also its healing effect on a variety of skin, respiratory, muscle and skeletal ailments.
